I recently ran a 4:59 mile in Track. I'm 14 and in the eighth grade. I set a school record for middle school and got much acclaim. Is that a good time for my age or is my school just slow? Thanks!

That is a decent time. My son ran a 4:46 in eighth grade and he was in the top 4 at his school. Keep working and you should be able to get a decent amount of improvement. I imagine you will be close to the upper half of the freshman class in your high school. Just keep working.
Try not to worry about it too much, just have fun running!
sub 5 for a middle school runner is quite good though. It shows you have a lot of potential for success in high school and beyond. If I were a high school coach I would be really looking forward to getting you on the team.
The only other thing I can say is that the top time for a middle school runner in the US this year so far is 4:42 (per milesplit) - so you are getting close, but still have some work cut out for you to reach the top.
It's great that you are looking towards bigger and better things! Keep doing that and you can get far.
It's very good.
Yes, its a good time. But doesn't really mean much other than you have the opportunity to be good. Keep putting in the work and you can have a lot of success.
you have the potential to run a mile faster than 4 minutes if you keep running competitively

sorry that was someone else, but yes that is an amazing time. keep working and you will reach your goal.
Have to take mike split with a grain of salt as not all states, schools etc send data to them. 7th grader in my area went 4:37 last year. Assume he’s quicker now
It's hard to say if 4:59 is good or not, because training programs at the 8th grade level are very different from school to school.
In a middle school where everyone trains very casually, like it was in my middle school, 4:59 is a fantastic time off of very little training.
On the other hand, if you are running 40-50 miles per week, then 4:59 isn't anything great.
Either way, many high schools don't even have a freshman that can run 4:59, so you are ahead of schedule.
