I guess this officially qualifies me as a hobby jogger. I'm so embarrassed.

I know the feeling. Once I was passed by this guy and I really felt horrible.

I was once passed by a dog on a skateboard. It's true!
Was passed today by a cyclist. I'm so embarrassed.

welcome to my world. A few months ago I was running with my dogs and an overweight woman with a phone passed me. I was going to take a picture but then realized I would be outed for having my phone on the run. (I swear I really was just getting the dogs out of the house and was expecting a call back from someone).
A friend of mine won't run with me anymore because I insist on running with my dogs.
I recently took my cell phone on a few runs while I was on vacation in Florida. Only did it to use the GPS so I wouldn't get lost but maybe I was the guy who past you.
Currently at 50mpw
15:08 5k PR

No, it wasn't you...unless you've had a sex change since then.
it's nothing to worry about, as long as s/he was going in the other direction
No it means you got passed by a hobby jogger... I am not sure what that makes you!
No one asked for your mileage and 5k pr.
It may have been me...I came to running late in life, and it started on a treadmill, I since graduated to road and distance running (hobby jogger). I still wear the buds if I'm alone. As for the phone, I'm getting old, a couple of friends have dropped dead from a heart attack, I'm paranoid or for some reason think if something happens to me a call may save my life...I know...I need to get over it.
As for the ear buds, they mostly stay if I'm alone, but I do run without them, and bite me.
No, it wasn't you. One slightly reassuring aspect is that she was much younger than I am. And I think she might not have gone as far as I did, but I can't be sure since she eventually was out of my sight.
I'm nowhere near a hobby jogger(1:48 800m 1 month ago) but I run with my phone and music. Ryan Hall has also been quoted saying he runs with music on his long runs. Even though he can't seem to finish a race I don't think you can label him a hobby jogger.

Wait, what? I thought he listened to audio books?!

Specifically, The Odyssey and Moby Dick:

Yea that is perfectly normal among elites and sub-elites, not just hobby joggers. This, and the discussions about "are treadmill good for my running" are two ridiculous disciussions I see from time to time. Elites do it, theres nothing wrong with it. When you run a lot it gets boring.
I often run with both on my way to and from work. I'm pretty sure i'd pass you as well.

Probably true since running to/from work is likely not as far as I run.
Ego, ego, ego.
Just shut up and run.
Are you enjoying it? Great, what's the problem?
You want to be fast? Increase your miles and run intervals too.
You are not enjoying it? Stop.
I run with my phone. Couple reasons.
#1 - have a gps so I have an idea of how far/fast Im going + time ran
#2 - as a coach if a runner gets hurt or something to that effect on a run, I can handle it.
I used to be all like that but as ive gotten older I really dont care. Now I see the problem with ear buds, because that actually can be a safety issue.
FWIW yesterday was 11.92 miles (or thereabouts) in 80 min
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
