Savannah Hardin's mother has broken a three-year silence, saying she feels Joyce Hardin Garrard is guilty of her child's death in an interview with The Daily Beast.
Heather Walker, the child's mother, said Garrard tried to prevent her from being alone with her 9-year-old daughter at Children's of Alabama when the child was on life support.
She also recounted a moment alluded to during Garrard's testimony yesterday.
While being cross-examined by Chief Deputy District Attorney Marcus Reid, Garrard was asked about her conduct at Children's around the child's stepmother, Jessica Hardin.
"Do you remember that you and Jessica had a conversation in Heather's presence," Reid asked. "Do you remember you put your hands on both sides of (Jessica's) face, and you said, 'You've got to pull it together. Jessica, you know what I'm talking about. There's a lot on the line.' Do you remember that?"
Garrard said she did not recall it.
Garrard is charged with capital murder in the death of Savannah, her granddaughter, who prosecutors say was forced to run for more than three hours as punishment for lying until she collapsed from a seizure on Feb. 17, 2014. She died later at Children's. Jessica Hardin has been charged with murder but has not been tried.
Closing arguments in Garrard's case are set to begin tomorrow morning.
Walker recounts the incident in the story, saying Garrard continued to change her story about what happened.
"And I knew something wasn't right," she said.
She also talks about her fight for custody of Savannah, and her life since her daughter's death.
Note the grandmother who is the oldest 49 year old I have ever seen looks about 50 pounds overweight and would struggle to run one lap without walking it off...
