Do I have a shot?

Ok so this afternoon I went out for my longest run of the yr thus far. I ran 15 miles @7:14 pace... Longest run in 6months.. My last mile was a 7:16, I may have been able to hold pace for another couple miles not sure.. Still not bad for my first long run, coming off an injury, and I have only been running 20-40mpw during the winter months.. When i'm in full marathon mode i'm gonna shoot for 55-60...

My goal is quite simple.. I'm aiming for a sub 3:10 marathon in Oct.. Do I have what it takes? Is that enough time? What do i need to do?

What kind of shape were you in before the injury? I would say no, but if you were a sub 3:10 guy before the injury, you mihgt be after too.

I was a consistent mid 18 5k'er, and a high 1:26 half marry.... So you don't think I can get in sub 3:10 shape before Oct.

You have plenty of time to progress back to your former level if it was last year. It may be more complicated if your break was several years long. If you can get back to 18/19 min 5K, 3:10 is probably doable.

However, at the moment, your long runs should be at an easy pace to build endurance (most likely 9+/mi), only later on you will start to push things a bit to 90-95% of race pace.

Fo shizzle, although October may be a bit soon. Not sure 55-60 mpw will get you there as well. What's the rush? Sounds like you are coming along nicely. Why not shoot for 9-12 months out?

loqueelvientoajuarez- I ran a 19 flat last weekend at a 5k... So I got the speed just need the endurance, correct? So get my weekly mileage and long runs @18+ and its doable?

I really don't know. I have never raced a mare and although I am a Masters runner who also ran competitively in HS and college, I actually raced my 1st (and likely my last) 1/2 mare a month ago.

All I can offer is what I repeatedly hear from ultra and marathon runners I train with: time and prudently increased mileage are key. October seems a bit early for what you want to accomplish is all. All kidding aside, wouldn't 60-70 mpw if increased to gradually, wisely and of course, injury free, be a better way to get there?
