People don't care about baseball because it's boring. Even in Boston people only go to Red Sox games because its a cool thing to do.

Not sure about basketball. Maybe it's because the Nuggets are no good.

That's because the Broncos are a winning franchise, and it's football. Franchise history Win-Loss is 444-382-10 in regular season games, 20-19 in playoff games including 2 Superbowl championships, 7 AFC Championships, 14 AFC West Championships and 21 playoff seasons.

The Nuggets have been to the playoffs a few times, but have never won the big one and rarely have gotten past the first round. They are 1464-1522 during the regular season and 61-101 in playoff games.

The Rockies are a younger franchise with a 1641-1861 regular season record and are 9-10 in the playoffs with only one season getting past the first round (their 2007 team that lost in the World Series).

The Avalanche (NHL) is the only pro sports team outside the Broncos with a winning franchise record.

Winning is a pretty important part of sports culture. It shouldn't come as any surprise that losing franchises aren't that popular in comparison to winning franchises.

Here is why I think the broncs are loved in CO. (I grew up with this, my whole family is exactly what you described)

They are an old team that has streaks of success and lameness. It builds loyal fans

John elway is on of the GOAT and he only played for the broncs I'm pretty sure

Mile high stadium was dope during its reign as their stadium. I believe it was loud because of metal flooring that could be stomped.Too young to know for myself but I've heard this. Good atmosphere there.

On top of all this, colorado's bordering states mostly have no NFL teams. So Wyoming, Utah, new mex, Nebraska, western Kansas, and Oklahoma have decent numbers of bronco fans too. It's a major regional team!

Rockies started in 1993 and haven't had much success.

Nuggets never caught fire either for whatever reason.

Fans up there aren't stupid why should they give a crap about two crappy franchises that are poorly run.

Monforts & Kroenke care about $ not product. They do not care about Colorado. That is the problem. Colors field us a nice place and Coloradans are outdoorsy so show up.

The Broncos are about Colorado and that's why they are supported.

It's very simple really.

AVS were hugely popular while winning. With their young core could be popular again.

A better question is what is Denver even doing there. Who the hell would build a city in such a place? Probably pioneers who were too weak to cross the rockies and too dumb to go back east.

I agree with you. The way that city is laid out is analogous to when a kid spills drink from a high chair and plays the 52 pickup game with a deck of cards .

Whaaaaaaa... ? Which is it? Boring or cool? In Boston, sports fans talk about the Sox year round. It costs over $100 to sit up on the Green Monster. Spring training games sell out at JetBlue Park. Sox fans are everywhere, and the term "Red Sox Nation" is emblematic of just how devoted they are.

This title is very offensive to Avalanche fans.

The Broncos allow for all of the latent and half men in Denver to pretend to be straight. 8 home games and 1 losing playoff game a year is all the commitment that is required. "Menver" is one of the gayest cities I have ever visited. Those sort of men need to take account of their lives and live a life pleasing to HIM.
