This is my first post on this forum as I have been only reading through these for about a day or two. I've noticed lots of you are more experienced in xc than I am, although I have been running for 3 years and I just want some advice.
I am 16, male, a junior in High School, and have been running since I was a freshman just so anyone concerned knows (as i just said, 3 years of running).
I just hit my PR this past season of an 18:03, which may not seem great to most of you, but I was pretty proud because I dropped 42 seconds that single race. Each year I have been able to take off at least a minute of time to my PR. This coming up season I will be number one on my team and a senior and I really really really want to break my school record which is a 16:37. That is a good bit to knock off but I think I can do it with a little more work and determination than I have put in before. I am in the middle of track season for my 3rd season right now and ran indoor this year too which was a first for me. If someone could please help me with the best summer workouts and any good tips and stuff I need to work on to make this possible I would be very happy to get any advice.
I know most of the basics and stuff, getting good endurance in the summer, which I have always just kind of been too lazy to do enough of, then during the season my coach will push in more speed workouts. Well, my cross country coach was fired after my first year and BASKETBALL coaches who know nothing about cross country were just kinda thrown into the position. They basically give us the same workouts every week with not much change to it during the season.
Monday: 10 miles
Tuesday: Extension Hills
Wednesday: 4 mile recovery
Thursday: Speed Workout; usually 400s and 800s
Friday: 4 mile recovery
And thats about it, every single week. So if any of you actually took the time to read all of this, please help me learn what will be the best things for me to do starting with the summer and during the season, even though these consistent workouts will be an every week rotation. I need to knock off 1:26 to break the school record if I did my math right. lol, I can provide any other information you may need. Thanks to anyone offering advice :)
