Why is this causing you to boycott Target?
Why do you boycott them?

They're bowing to liberals' demands.
Hey OP, how old are you? Just curious.
My company has a minimum wage of probably about $20/hour. Are you going to boycott us?
What you're saying doesn't make sense.
This isn't a "minimum wage" increase. It's a company paying its employees what it thinks they are worth.

CORRECT! When the economy is doing better (and it is) and there are more jobs available (and there are), then companies like Target MUST pay more to keep employees and attract new ones. This isn't a company "bowing to liberals". What a ridiculous statement. It's a company making a sound business decision. The OP should be all for it.

If protests in the "street" led to that $20 wage, I would boycott your company (if I knew what your company was, of course).
I've worked at target as a cashier and as a cart pusher back when I was in college and needed spending money. It was a terrible job and most people who worked there thought so too. The average lenght of time anyone works there is probably less than 6 months. Most of their long term employees are high school dropouts or people who struggled to pass classes to graduate high school. Terrible work environment, labor is viewed as a resource, managers don't even know your name. By the time you're promoted, you could have taken classes and gotten a degree and that promotion is probably just to another department. I'll explain why this is important in just a min.
Target has gotten some bad pr lately. First they got hacked, and everyone's credit card numbers got stolen. Target employees are likely to shop at target, because of the low wages and discount; its the only way they can really get by. Most people probably cared very little about this after a few months, but still its enough that target took a real hit. Then the ceo in charge of Target Canada ran it into the ground like a total bafoon. Every decision he made, was wrong, most were probably the opposite of what he should have done. Typically Ayn Rand loving libertarian who's got everything backwards. I mean a highly intelligent 6th grader could have done a better job. When he got fired for costing Target tons of $$$, he got a severance package greater than every single employee of Target Canada combined. How stupid can Target's owners/controllers/presidents - whoever is in charge of these things be. That was terrible pr for target. People used to shop at target and say its at least not walmart, but now they're going back to walmart for their cheap hypocritical needs. Even some people who didn't care, won't shop at target now.
So you've got Target appearing as villains, and people knowing if they work there, they will face humiliating conditions. The latter leads to a labor shortage! The former leads to lower than ideal profits. Target is having to make more money from fewer shoppers with employees who get gradually worse over time, as more and more people hear how bad working at Target is.
This $9 min wage might do a little bit to stem the tide; target will get people who would have gone to work at Wendy's or walmart. It will allow them to be a tiny bit more selective. But like everything else target has done, its another bad move and a terrible business decision based on a flawed understanding of how the world works. $9 an hour might have been a good starting wage in 2005. But in 2015, its like Target is seeing their bad pr and spitting in your face when you bring it up.
Ultimately, this change will help target a tiny bit. They are everywhere and they are convenient. People will still shop there and these slightly better employees will be able to guide them to buy more, for a few months, until they become apathetic, which will take longer than on the 7.xx target payed before. But, Target is on the downswing. Now is not a good time to invest in Target. If they'd said 13.00 instead of 9, they'd probably see a huge boon to profits. Too bad.

In Australia, Target pulled GTA 5 from shelves as feminist and liberal action groups claimed it was "degrading to women and minorities".
As a gamer, I say F*ck Target, with a capital F. Who bows to a bunch of people that require a certain level of attention to their radical views and loudmouthed beliefs that condemn anyone who opposes their viewpoints? Apparently Target Australia does.
