This is probably an easy accomplishment for a number of you but I am looking to break 11 minutes for 2 miles on a cross country course in the Fall and also looking to coach some teenagers to the same time/distance.
For those of you who have been there can you share what it would take to get there for some teenagers who have a very limited running background. Do they need to be super talented? Do they need a lot of mileage to get there? Certain key workouts?
Thanks so much!
How old are these teenagers? I am privy to a boy who ran 12:10 for 2 miles in CC for his PR as an 8th grader and then busted a 9:55 3200 during INDOOR TRACK as a freshman. Was 13 as an 8th grader and 14 as a freshman. Makes a big difference sometimes.
General answers -- if they are still in middle school, then yes, they need to either be super talented or running a LOT of mileage. If they are at least in high school, then it still takes some talent to break 11, especially on a CC course.
HS running legend Scott Fry ran 10;45 for 3200 on the track as his PR as a freshman in HS. That's about what you're asking.
