I'm a biology guy who has done a mix of lab and field work in the past. I enjoyed both but enjoyed field work more. I see myself going to graduate school in wildlife biology or zoology in the next few years.
Anyway, I've just been offered two positions. One is temporary and only runs 4 months, but it's doing work on several different wildlife projects collaborating with a number of researchers. It's also located in an awesome part of the country. I see this as a great opportunity to gain experience, add something cool to my resume, and make connections that will almost certainly help me in the future.
The other position entails mostly lab work and is working with plants and parasites. I've been let known there will be some days where I will literally stare into a microscope all day long counting parasites (they number as high as 18,000 per plant). I do not see myself making a career doing this type of work, but there is opportunity to gain different skills and make a few connections. The main pro to this job is that it lasts as long as I want to work there as I'd be considered temporary but the project is expected to run several more years. It also pays slightly better than the other and is located right here where I live already.
I'm wondering what people here have to suggest on this situation. Obviously I'd much rather do the short term work, but I really don't want to be looking for a job again a few months from now. I've done these temp jobs in the past, and it's made my resume look pretty patchy as there are several 1-3 month blanks on it. Money isn't a huge issue, but of course more is nice. I'm 25 years old if that matters.
