I've been living in Juneau for a little over a year now. I got a really good deal on my apartment through my wife's family, so I was lucky. Housing is really expensive here, and it's not easy to find something. It really helps to know people in town. Are you willing to live with housemates? That would make it a lot more affordable. By yourself, $1000-1300 gets you a small apartment.
Have you done a lot of research on Juneau? I knew a lot about this place and even visited multiple times before I moved here for a job, but it was still quite a culture shock. It's definitely not as glamorous as some might think.
First of all, it rains all the time. There have been weeks in which it literally rained 24/7. And when it's not raining, it's still gray and gloomy, and oftentimes really foggy. Next on the list is the isolation. You can't drive out of Juneau and it's expensive to fly anywhere. This might not sound like a huge deal, but it can get to you. Last is the cost of living. Yes, you make more money here than down south, but you also pay $4 for a loaf of bread.
Of course, there are also great things about Alaska. When it's one of those few nice days, it's one of the most beautiful places on earth. The people are generally nice, and the job market is good. The nature is incredible, and so is the wildlife. I hope you're not afraid of bears, though, because you will see them a lot.
