It is going to happen.
In a world where the US dominates and dictates everything from fashion to lifestyle, basically leading the way. All the major marketing firms want heroes (not SCRAWNY runners or ski jumpers).
Right now there are still "athletes", mostly from Europe, who are super skinny but the kids these days don't respect them anymore, not even in Europe.
So yep, a change that emphasis sports where athletes are more BUFF, is certainly coming.
I think the IOC is looking for sports, not business plans as events.
Some form of the sport with be added at some point.
I mean if it's what the people want to see how can you argue with that?
X-fit will never be in the Olympics because it is not a competitive sport. X-fit is just a fitness routine, kind of like Zumba or Body-pump. I don't see and true athletic advocate for the X-fit cult. It is more of just an athletic hobby club and will maintain its status among those not able to participate in a competitive sport.

So you're saying RICH FRONING JR is not a real athlete?
You sir, are a moron.

Yes, yes I am.

It exists already. It's called weightlifting.
Anything that needs a judge or judges to rate / determine the winner exclusively should not be in the Olympics. Snowboarding is one such sport. So is diving, figure skating, and gymnastics.
That said, the competitors in those sports are athletes. Just like the folks that compete at cross fit.
With Cross Fit being in the Olympics, I believe they would have a Chicken and Egg problem.
To generate long term interest, events would need to be standardized so viewers could learn the activity better and know what to expect. This runs against the grain of what cross fit is though (total body fitness / do everything without notice). With a standard set of exercises, athletes would just specialize in those. Ooops.
If we ignore that, then you are open for corruption in that events could be organized in such a way that it suits certain competitors better than other ones.
Plus it would seem a bit confusing.
Run the fastest, jump the highest, throw the furthest. Simple sports that anyone can follow.

Are you suggesting that boxing matches should go on until K.O.?
I could also imagine CrossFit "ultimate" - last man standing wins. My $$$ would still be on Rich "the man" FRONING.
Why not Ninja Warrior? It's basically the same thing.
The only box any self respecting athlete should ever be in is the batters box.
Yes, Xfit should be an Olympic sport, right after Wipe Out. Love the little captions.
Snowboarding is scored very specifically and is pretty much objective. That said, the pro guys (and girls) that do pipe and slopestyle are unbelievably talented and the stuff they do is as amazing as anything you'll see in any mainstream sport.

The IOC is getting frantic to connect to a younger audience and depending on who you talk to they have either failed or did okay with a long way to go.
Somehow I doubt crossfit's core demographic is the precious 18-29. I know they like the PED's, so they'll fit in real well at the IOC.
You guys need to check out the IOC's minor league sports. Yeah! They've got them.

Go
"Air Sports" Hot air balloning competition anyone? Anyone?
Also a bunch of more legitimate sports in there.
IOC apparently infatuated with the Asian Beach Games too.
It's up to the cross fit people if they want to pay to play.
The olympics is a joke and always has been. It has ruined every sport it touched except those that stand on their own and don't care about it. Such as basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, boxing and tennis. Skiing is the only one where they take the olympics seriously yet are a big sport outside of it as well.
The rest is a collection of niche sports, some of which could not otherwise exist, and a few of which were once much bigger. Track was a really big deal before the olympics amateurized it.
Cross fit would fit right in with the synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, horse jumping, ping pong, archery, shooting, skeleton sled, badminton, and everything else that makes the olympics a celebration of the ridiculous.
While they're at it why not add darts and snooker.

Why not add the most ridiculous of all sports: American "football"?
