Second Annual Sprint Combine Track Event at
the Sports Center at Chelsea Piers
(New York, NY – March 2, 2015) - Legendary Olympian and sprinter Ben Johnson will be at the Sports Center health club at Chelsea Piers on Saturday, March 21 from 8:00am – 2:30pm to host the 2nd Annual Indoor Sprint Combine, a USATF sanctioned, open indoor track meet for athletes ages 16 and older. Held on the Sports Center’s ¼-mile indoor track, the Sprint Combine will include 50m and 60m events for Open Men and Open Women. All participants will be provided with complimentary ceramic spikes as steel spikes are not allowed on the Sports Center track.
The Sprint Combine format allows athletes to participate in one or both 50m and 60m events. However, to be eligible for the finals, athletes must participate in both events. The four cumulative best times will advance to the 60m finals, where seeding will be based on performance from fastest to slowest. $500, $300 and $100 cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers.
Dubbed “The Fastest Man in the World,” Ben Johnson is a Canadian former sprinter, Olympian and sports celebrity with a worldwide following of fans who have been touched by his personal victories and traumas. Ben now trains young, aspiring athletes in all fields of sport, and remains in the media spotlight by championing a worldwide anti-doping campaign, Puresport. Ben is also enjoying success on the big screen, with a newly launched ESPN documentary, entitled 9.79*, and a movie debut in
“A Patriotic Man” released in Europe and screening at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival).
