Two problems.
1. Her 2:43.91 is slower than the 2:43.40 by Sarah Bowman (2005) recognized as the HS best by Track and Field News.
2. T&FN won't recognize any marks from high schoolers after they turn pro. Nobody else keeps recognized American HS records except for the HS federations, and they obviously aren't going to count her either.
Maybe because she didn't break the record. She ran 2:43.91
TFN lists the record as Sarah Bowman's 2:43.40

The time is also a lot slower than Cain's Junior Record 2:35.80 from last year...

Also, it wasn't a PR for Efraimson. She ran 2:43.39 a couple weeks ago at the UW Indoor Open.

Yea, Cains time is the real record. Alexa's time is still great though. And it was only a prelim right?

Oops!
She's a pro, why should anyone care how she compares to amateur records? Making the final in a US championship in her first year as a pro is a bigger deal

Isn't that track oversized?
last year NBC made such a major deal about when Cain as a HS stepped on the track then yesterday they pretty much ignored Alexa E. Whats up with that?
Cain is from New York and NBC is based in New York. NBC very clearly doesn't care about a girl from Washington state just as much as they don't care about Chanelle Price or the like.

Cain was and is a lot faster and had already won the Indoor nationals the year before.

Yes, and that is also why her 9:00 indoor 3000m is not an HS record either.

Since they allowed pros in the Olympics, they should allow pros to set records at whatever age group or situation they are in.
2:41.23 today. Pretty solid!
this isnt trending because since when is a highschool human running 2:43 a big deal?

Yes, and she is allowed to set junior records and any other age group records, just not "high school" records. You could argue that since she is actually attends high school, then she should be eligible for high school records regardless whether she is professional or runs for her high school team. If you feel that way, then what about Maria Mutola, who attended high school in Oregon when she was world class (and has never been considered eligible for high school records).
Really, the simplest is just to do straight age records (junior, under 20, under 18, under 16, etc.) and go by nationality of citizenship.
under 20 is Junior.
This fascination with HS records is bizarre. Perhaps the whole Mary/Alexa thing shows how silly it is, especially (like Verzbikas) when people are also concerned with HS ages anyway.
Go by age group records ONLY - starting at Youth, since I don't believe that younger ages should even allow record-keeping since it just encourages over-the-top parents and coaches to push their kids too much.
2:41 Wow!
I there anyone in the NCAA who can run that fast; that's got to be equal to a 2:04 800m.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
