I am a junior in HS and I am considering training myself this summer. I want to increase mileage very high and this is how I plan to do it.
Sample Week in Base Phase
Monday- 7 AM- 6 mi (6:30) 1 PM- 4 mi (7:45) 7 PM- 6 mi (7:00)
Tuesday- 7 AM- 8 mi (6:45) 1 PM- Strength Training 7 PM- 8 mi (6:45)
Wednesday- 7 AM- 12 mi (6:30) 1 PM- 45 min elliptical 7 PM- 7 mi (7:00)
Thursday- 7 AM- 6 mi (7:00) 1 PM- 5 mi tempo (5:45) 7 PM- 5 mi (7:30)
Friday- 7 AM- 8 mi (6:45) 1 PM- 6 mi (7:20) 7 PM- 3 mi (7:00)
Saturday- 7 AM- 7 mi (7:30) 1 PM- 5 mi (6:45) 7 PM- 4 mi (7:45)
Sunday- 7 AM- 15 mi (6:30 down to 5:30 at end) 7 PM- 4 mi (8:00)
Obviously the paces can change depending on how I feel. The parenthesized paces serve as sort of a guideline. This week is relatively early in the base phase so I will add in another workout, probably a fartlek or hill workouts. Barefoot strides will be done after every AM run. As intervals are added the training will drop down to once a day most days to allow for more intense training.
I would love to hear some opinions about this way of training and any compliments or critique would be appreciated greatly!
