I need help. My race times continue to get slower and slower. However, my training goes extremely well. I always run faster in practice than I do in a race with less effort. I am going to put a timeline to show what Ive been though:
may 2014: finished a great track season, would PR literally every single race and finished the season with 5:13 1600 and 11:13 3200
June 2014: ran a 5k on the track- 18:24 PR. the week after I found out I had a stress fracture. was out for 8 weeks.
August 2014: Ran a time trial a week after I started running again. Ran 11:38 3200m . Pretty good considering two months of no training
September 2014: Started cross country off with a 18:38 5k and won my first race. Felt great in that race
October- November 2014: My 5k time got progressively slower each race 18:38 to 18:52 to 19:06 to 19:36 to 20:30. It was like after two miles of the race I would slow down sooooo drastically. I got a blood test mid-season to try and find an explination for my drop off in performance. Everything was fine except for my blood sugar which was slightly low. I was told this was common for runners (could this be affecting anything?) I also saw a nutritionist, and my diet is exactly what it needs to be, and I eat about 2500 calories a day according to the nutritionist, which is great.
December 2014: After cross I started training with two new coaches, one for speed and one for distance. I was getting so strong. for one of my long runs, I raced a half marathon and ran a 1:29:13 and I felt so strong. My mileage was at 50 mpw after being at 40 mpw all cross season
January 2015: Ran my first Indoor meet, I was sure that I would PR after working hard all winter. But I ran 5:23 1600 and 11:28 3200
February 2015: Ran my first outdoor meet (a 5K) I wanted to break my time from last summer of 18:24. I ran 18:42.
Today: Ran my first outdoor 1600m and 3200m I ran 5:42 and 12:15. Just last week in practice I ran 8x400 with 60 seconds rest all in 79.
What gives? What do I do? Do I run more? Do I run less?
