Which is it; ugly or handsome?
I've always enjoyed using a tennis racket. It offers a large surface area and the holes allow the air to pass through without warning the bee. The racket offers so much spring that it knocks the bee so far away and has a gratifying sound to it.
I would try fainting. That will scare the bee.
Carry a jar of your own urine with you and fling it at the bee if it gets too close.
The term "buzz off" was invented to scare off bumble bees and it works like a charm.
You may be dealing with carpenter bees instead of bumble bees.
I don't mind having a few around because they are good for pollination. However, they can do a lot of damage to your deck.
That said, my weapon of preference is a big red wiffle ball bat. By the middle of the summer I have switched to the skinny yellow wiffle ball bat since my hand eye coordination has improved.
