I'm an experienced female marathon runner (7 marathons) and I PR'd in November with a 3:13 (7:23 pace). I'm training now to run a 3:07-3:08. Next race is Boston.
My last training schedule (used a MP goal of 7:25) had mostly steady paced long runs and some fast finish long runs - not specifically hitting MP. There were also a few MP tempo runs (up to 12 miles) thrown in. I ran between 50-65/wk and peaked in the low 70's. I hit my paces (most of the time) and my race went very well.
The schedule I'm using now has some 1/2M and MP interval miles during the week and then has been increasing MP miles during the long run. I'm running 60-70/wk (2 "on" weeks and 1 "off" week at 50-55) If all goes well I'll peak at 75.
I run 2 doubles/wk.
Here's my issue - I'm not hitting my MP miles during the long run. In the beginning when my legs were fresher, long runs were shorter, and fewer MP miles, I hit the paces (even faster than 7:10). Now, I'm struggling. I'm worried because we don't have any long tempo runs during the week at MP. I'm worried that I'm not spending enough time at MP. I did run 18 hilly miles last week at 7:34 avg pace, straight with no stops. But…still not MP.
This is an "off" week (last two weeks were 65, 70) so my legs were tired this morning's workout was a struggle: 3 @MP, 2@1/2MP, 8x400@10k
Any advice? Recommendations?
