In the last month or so I've been experiencing poor performances after the race of my life 6 weeks ago. I'm drinking huge amounts of water, and I am not sleeping as well anymore in general, I feel fatigued, like my legs aren't comftorable running fast anymore. I have decided to take a week or so off running completely then enter into a 12 week build up towards races. In my first 5 weeks I'm focusing on building a base with a few fartlek s and tempos bginning 4 weeks in or so. When I went stale, I was not in a period of increasing mileage, however I was coming to an end of a long period of intense v02 max work and racing. Is it for me to come back at my normal mileage in the first weeks of base, and then build up to a new mpw figure totalling no more than a 15 percent increase in mileage (8mpw)? I feel as though my burnout was caused by intensity.
