So I let's say hypothetically you find out from some very reliable sources that two of your JV team members are kind of party animals. They are sophomores and gaining reputations for their weekend consumption which is in the 4-8 beers a party range. You coach a club team and practice and all meets are during the week so their weekend lives are kind of blank spots on the map for you.
You live in an affluent area and underage drinking is kind of accepted, even by a ton of parents you know. Your athletes know you drink. Hell, they know you brew your own even. You feel like you shouldn't worry about this whole thing too much especially since the two runners are pretty damn good. No one's performance seems to be suffering.
But for some reason, this just rubs you the wrong way. You didn't drink yourself until you were a senior and even then hardly anything at all.
It's very hard for you to imagine one of your runners, who doesn't even have facial hair, tossing them back with his peeps at a party. On a very deep level, this kind of flies in the face of the athletic pursuit even though you know it happens all the time on teams all over the country. Still this isn't the kind of culture you want on the team, but of course this isn't happening on team time.
You haven't confronted the kids, don't know if you should and and don't even know what you would say to them if you did. You turn to the wise coaches at LRC for their thoughts.
