I'm a freshman running at a DII school and haven't been able to break 4:35 in the mile. At this point, I\'m unsure whether I should discontinue training for the mile or not. I've been racing the mile in track throughout high school and pr\'d my junior year. So far in my freshman year, I have only been able to run a 4:39 and nothing faster. My other pr's include a 52.5 400m, 2:03 800m, 9:50 3k, 16:24 5k(In the middle of an 8k, 26:07 8k.
It\'s been very frustrating with all of the training that I am doing being unable to even break 4:35. Especially since I am not at the collegiate level with a more rigorous amount of training. With a little more side information, I was also injured the middle of my cross season with shin splints and didn\'t run through November to the middle of December.
Current mileage is at about 35 miles a week(trying to increase), with two days of interval work. Intervals include two sets of 2x600, 2x500, 2x400, 2x300 with about 3:00 min rest. Paces at 600m = 1:43, 500m = 1:25, 400m = 1:04.
Any advice you guys can give me is greatly appreciated. I just need some outside advice on what I need to do at this point.
