I have cycled through a few pairs of the Mizuno Wave Inspire 10's over the last 9 months. They have been great until now.
As background, a year ago I was running in the Asics 2000 series when I decided stop hobby jogging and start a semi-serious comeback attempt. This was when I first noticed my left arch had fallen and it was painful to run harder (and after harder runs) some days. Like I said, I made the switch to the Mizunos in June of last year and running has been better since, but the arch is not. It has gotten better at times only to hurt again at other times. I have been doing arch strengthening exercise (but not as often as I should) and simply icing my foot / taking naproxin.
I have had two pairs of these shoes, so I rotate my shoes every other day. My arch had been feeling a lot better, but my two pairs of the 10's began showing wear and needed replacing, so I went back with a double dose of what had been working. Well, now that I have newer shoes again, the structure of having an arch in the shoe is really bothering me and it is honestly throwing off my gait after a harder run (tempos, intervals, etc.)
I know that I need to fix the root problem – which I’m obviously struggling to do – but that’s another issue where I’m open to suggestions. Meanwhile should I switch to more of a non-structured road racing shoe for my harder days? I’m looking for the best shoes with basically no arch support. When my shoes get worn down, that’s when my arch has the least pain. FYI – I’m a bigger runner at 6 feet and 170lbs.
Any advice on the arch or the shoe is much appreciated!
