I refuse to believe that the WNBA averages 7500 per game.
9500 in Phoenix.
"The WNBA’s slight rise in attendance, respectable increase in TV viewership and explosion on social media this year is an encouraging marker of the growth of the league, said President Laurel Richie. It’s also the result of unprecedented self-marketing efforts – something Richie said is just the beginning.
“We’re working hard to have a steady sense of momentum,” she said.
The 2014 home attendance numbers the WNBA released shortly after the completion of the regular season reflect that league-wide attendance was up almost one percent overall from last year. But individual team attendance numbers are split evenly: Six teams showed an attendance increase, while the other six recorded a decrease. Richie said there are 12 different reasons for those numbers.
“Each team has a unique fan base, is unique on the court and has different local activities, so each is independent in a way,” Richie said.
The league will work individually with teams on marketing.
“We’re going to work hard with all of our teams to provide support and platforms that they can leverage in their markets,” Richie said. “It will be a customized approach.”
