Definitely will read it, probably will be solid but not great. Wish he'd delve more into the stories of Quentons childhood, like when he nearly drowned. That was the most interesting to me

I want to read some more of that hot high jump pit action with gimpy chick.
I'd like to read more about how Spider busted his ass trying to jump 2 volkswagons (I think that is what happened. Haven't read it in years)
I pre-ordered it on my Kindle. Comes out July 15.
I'll get it and I'll read it. But, I wish he'd have written about the build up to the Olympics and Quenton's time racing in Europe.
I'm buying it. It will probably be good, but no Once a Runner. How many decent books get written about running now a days? Maybe one a year on average? So glad JLP continues to write.
I want to hear how he never got laid in HS because he was a skinny dork like other distance runners.

I know I'll buy and read it.
Next story will be a flash sideways consisting of other things Quenton and Bruce were up to at the time of Once a Runner, essentially consisting of deleted scenes from the original novel. Center points will be the lunch when not much happened, the slow recovery workout, and the time Quenton went by a girl's house but she wasn't there so he left a note and went home.
Don't forget the endless days alone in a cabin with nothing to do but read and jerk off

pretty sure he "busted his ass on the fourth"
How exciting can a story about a 4:30 miler be?
Didn't the release date for Again to Carthage get pushed back a number of times? My guess is this book will face the same problems. I'll buy and read it though.
Pretty sure it's the story of the glorious High School career of Jack Nubbins.
For some reason I pictured John L. Parker to look exactly like George R. R. Martin

I laughed.
I would like to learn more about the "Umbrella Man" standing next to Andrea when Cass runs his big race.
"Umbrella Man" has come to represent every man who has ever been with any of my girlfriends before or after me. I have grown to hate him.
Most of these "Umbrella Men" I have met in real life have turned out to be decent guys who I can relate to. Fallible just like me. But until I meet them I feel so inferior. If only Parker could write a novel about him, I might be able to feel better about myself.
Does anyone remember the story Denton tells about the 800 meter runner who wrote the word "fuck" in the school newspaper? Denton tells Cassidy how they had a big court case, which he won, and then the kid ran 1:56 the next year and was never heard from again.
That seems like it would make a good story.

At first I thought this post was super crazy. Then I related to it. Then I realized that doesn't mean it's not super crazy.
I would like the book to be about Bruce Denton and not really about Quenton at all. I feel it would be really anti-climactic to go cover a 4:10-4:02 runner after we know his later accomplishments.
I wonder why the title changed. In 2011, there was talk that prequel was coming out. It was going to be called, "Cold Island Blues."
Once a Runner
