Some are obvious like 100m and 200m, Long Jump and Triple Jump, 5000m and 10000m, etc...
But there is a relationship between complete different events in track and field? One Pole Vault athlete will tendency to be good at Hurdling for example?

It's not absolute by any means but a good pole vaulter usually can long jump well.
The different events in track and field are essentially weight classes in disguise. The grappling and fighting sports employ weight classes to broaden the sports appeal and participation; track uses different events.
There are power events for the heavyweights: shot put, hammer, weight throw, 55 dash
There are speed events for the cruisers and light heavyweights: 100, 200, LJ
There are technique sports for the middleweights: TJ, discus, PV, Javelin, 110 hurdles
There are mid-distances for the bantam: 400, 800, 1500, 400h
There are distances for the lightweigths: 3k+
Well, at least, that's my theory.
A guy that can do well in the high hurdles is usually among the best all around athletes on the team. He should be capable in any sprinting or jumping event.
Long jump is another good event for finding the the best athlete, but sometimes long jumpers lack the overall coordination that the hurdler necessarily has.
There is truth in this^^^
Also, there are similarities between the high jump and javelin, believe it or not. The nature of the 'block' leg in the jav, can be very similar to the plant/takeoff mechanics in the high jump. There have been athletes that have successfully doubled in those events.
''There are power events for the heavyweights: shot put, hammer, weight throw, 55 dash''
I agree generally, but a 55 dash runner normally runs 100m too.
Why distinction in weight between TJ and LJ? And Discus in middleweight?
Bring Back the 880 -

And Triple Jump isn't?
