A couple days ago I noticed one of the athletes who currently runs for my college (I graduated about a decade ago) uses the same online log program I do. (Random names and avatars pop up on the main page now and then; I happened to recognize the singlet and his username looked familiar.)
I took a look at his training log, and man did it make me nostalgic for my college team. Looking at his training and seeing so many familiar runs (one of which I named; a nice ego boost to see it's still being used), workouts, and races, I was transported back to my college days. Just thinking about simple things like goofing off with my teammates while driving in the vans to some away meet or state park for a long run. Or doing half mile repeats on the cross country course when everyone was just vibing off each other.
I always get a kick out of the "my coach is an idiot, I want to quit my team" threads on Letsrun. I realize not everyone has a perfect college experience, and there were definitely times when my college running was a drag (hey, it wouldn't be nostalgia if I only remembered the bad times!), but damn is those four years weren't the most fun I've had running since I started in middle school. I've even PRed in most events since I graduated, but no club I've been on has compared to the comraderie, dedication, and just overall fun of my college team.
Guys who are still in college: take a second and appreciate what you've got going. One thing I took for granted: my college town had some awesome places to run, and I just assumed most places were like that. Not even close. Technical wooded trails, dirt roads, hilly road loops, bike trails, this area had it all.
