background: 33:50 10k, 75:10 HM.
Training to beat my Half Marathon PR on april.
Averaging 50-60 miles per week.
Hope to run at least a 74:30, but actually aiming to reach the 73:XX
i am doing 3 key trainings per week: a long run at ~ 7:00 pace with some drills, a training where I simulate the HM effort and some 1600 intervals.
It turns that this is the second week in a row where running 8 km (~5 miles) at 5:35 pace per mile (3:30 / km) feels kind of easy, while running the mile sets a little bit faster seems extremely hard.
for instance:
ran 8km in 27:55 on friday morning (exactly 5:35 pace). It was not that bad.
today tuesday, ran 5 x 1600 jogging 200m between each (really a jog, around 1:30). Here's how it was:
1. 5:25 (ok.. a conservative start)
2. 5:19 (seems this will be great!)
3. 5:18 (keep going!)
4. 5:29 (something is not right...)
5. 5:38 (dying)
average: ~ 5:26
A 5:26 with rests seems so much harder than a 5:35 with no rest. It doesn't seem right. What I am lacking in my training?
Thanks!
