Do you recommend marrying a runner? Yes or no?
Do you recommend marrying a runner? Yes or no?
I married a girl who was an athlete, not a runner. All the runner girls I knew in college were either neurotic or too stick thin to be attractive to me. Very happy with that because she cares about her body and at 45 and kids has a better body than most college girls. She was gymnast through HS, but has always stayed active. She did some running but decided it was not for her and now prefers biking and gym classes.
But it is a personal thing. Find someone you love and trust and get married. As long as running is not the core of your relationship, you'll be fine either way.
I married a runner. The first thing you'll have to do is give up running. That way she can keep doing her running while you work 40 hours a week, take care of the kids, do all the housework, laundry, shopping, etc.
I am not married but I've been living with my gf for over a year. She's competitive locally and runs 6 times a week with tons of cross training (a lot more than I do). I like it, obviously for the fact that she looks really good and I appreciate her looks even more when I see her friends or mine (women or men). At our age if you don't exercises you have been putting on the pounds for a while now. But also because we understand each other a lot more, just in life in general because running takes such a big part of ours. We don't really run together, my easy run is her race pace, but we talk daily about running and our goals. Our vacation trips always include a road race we will train for. Im 31, she's 27.
My point is I don't plan on being with someone else, so pretty much married to her without the ring.
My mother told me to stay away from fast women.
I've had sex with a lot of beautiful elite/sub-elite runner girls. Both in relationships and one-offs. My take is I don't think I could ever marry one.
They tend to look great without their clothes. Guilty as charged. But while they are great to look at there are almost always a lot of core issues in the background. For instance, it's very hard to be in an intimate relationship with a narcissist or dissociative type. 1) they only truly love and hate themselves 2) they are unpredictable and 3) the sex can be quite hollow
I've had much better luck with non-hardcore runner types, blonde hair/blue eyed girls of swedish and german descent who drink beer and eat a cheeseburger now and then. At least they have the capacity to love another individual and their lives aren't crazy emotional roller coasters all the time.
so why don't you ask her to marry you?
Better to marry a 'Girl Who Runs' than a Runner Girl. The former cares about her looks but is less ectomorphic, obsessive and , yes, neurotic, than the latter. Also runner girls (like guys) can be too furtive and introvert and no fun except as a training partner.

You have a point. For several years, I've been dating a sub-elite marathoner, 2:40-2:45 marathon range.
The shared running interest is nice. Having someone to do easy morning runs with is pleasant. But (like you yourself), they tended to have a single-minded focus on themselves regarding their running.
It's odd. Runners can be simultaneously very tough and incredibly fragile minded. Someone can get up at 6 in the morning everyday for a morning run before work, but once they get tendonitis or a strain or god forbid a stress fracture, they go to pieces. My partner becomes an incredibly awful to be around when running is going poorly. I don't think this is necessarily a gendered thing, but it's probably something deeper than the activity itself. You'll have to deal with this as both of you eventually transition into other activities (career, family, rec league squash, etc.)
After being on a D1 track/XC team for 5 years and seeing the 'other side' of women for the last 5 or so years, I can safely say that I will NEVER marry/long-term date a serious runner. This is just my opinion.
