Of course, I'd need a wetsuit and a safety boat following me with food/supplies. I'd also have to take breaks for sleeping, eating, and going to the bathroom.

Nope
A bathroom break! Seriously?
Just get in the Gulf Stream and float across. No challenge.
Yes, yes you could.
One year of swim-specific training would get me very fit. Plus:
1. The water would cool my body temperature, requiring me to eat a lot. Thus, I'd have to take in lots of calories (energy).
2. Wetsuit helps with buoyancy.
3. Swimming isn't weight bearing (like running), so it's quite a bit easier than many other activities.
already been done by men and women that way, so not really that big a deal
when LeComte did it he was followed by a Great White Shark for 5 straight days, fun stuff and good times
also you have probably never heard of LeComte, there is even less fame, glory and $ in that than in track and field, so good luck getting sponsors and all
How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains?
I'm well aware that others have done it. I don't need to be the first to be satisfied. I am a bit OCD, though...lol!
OCD? Ocean Crossing Demented?
LOL, that might be true!
You should do it. Start training tomorrow and plan a 1/23/16 start date.
You're welcome..

I think he's full of poop. He would have had to swim at 7:50/mile pace to cross the Atlantic in 73 days.
