You might want to find somethjing lighter. I like the NB 1400s a lot - very light and simple.
1400 is a good shoe, but still in the marathon flat / lightweight trainer realm.
as long as his feet aren't too wide, I'd go with Nike Zoom LT 2 (or whatever version is available). Super light, cheap, and they look and feel like a racing shoe. Put those on and it feels like you're getting ready to race!
I'd say it is good to try a few on though. You want something that fits your feet well.
well remember the kid will do some road racing after track season - not sure I'd want to do a 19 or 20 minute 10k in zoom lts - that's a minimal shoe .
The zoom lt is 5.5 oz and the 1400 is 7.1 and you get a lot more cushioning for almost no extra weight.
You can get the 1400 v1 for $70-80
as a parent of a teen runner, I'd reccomend a beefier shoe than the nike.
