So I've got a 1v1 race for the mile comin up. Its the first meet of the season, and I've entered in the mile. I've got a pretty good seed time from last year, 4:32. I've been doing 60+ miles a week with 6 mile tempos, fartleks, a handful of recent speed workouts that have gone relatively well and great long runs. The problem is that for this first meet, I'm faster than everyone by a considerable margin except this one guy from another school who ran 4:33 last year, and I'm unsure as to how I will beat him. He beat me last year at this race with a sit and kick and I don't want it to happen again. We both have PRs for the 400 57, and 800 2:10. The fastest I've ever closed a mile was 63 (sit and kick, made my move at the 500 and just opened it up), and I've got a great last 100m, I've never been passed in the home stretch and have won quite a few races in those final 200 meters. He on the other hand has a fast last lap himself and his last 100m are good not great, but he tends to pull away on that final back stretch. He knows not to lead, and if he's forced to lead he'll make sure that pace is an absolute crawl so as not to burn himself out. Someone help me out here? Looking for someone who knows the mile race like the back of their hand, any kick ass race strategies would be great.
Thanks
