Where does Estrada's 1:00:51 rank on the all-time U.S. List? I am having a hard time finding a list, but my guess is that only a handful have broken 1:01:00 (Hall, Ritz, Rupp. . .).

You missed Abdi and Curp.
Trafeh went 60:39.
It's the 4th fastest debut ever:
Fastest debut half marathons by an American
1. Ryan Hall, 59:43 (2007 Houston)
2. Todd Williams, 60:11 (1993 Tokyo)*
3. Galen Rupp, 60:30 (2011 New York)

Williams's, Abdirahman's, Rupp's, and Kempainen's times were all on aided courses. If you're going to include them then you need to include Terry Cotton's 59:41 from the Fontana Days race in 1986.
Trafeh's ban didn't begin until 1/1/2012 and was not retroactive, so his 60:39 should also be on the list. However, his time was run in the New York City Half so it should be aided. For some reason neither Track & Field News nor All-Athletics lists it as such. Weird.
The corrected official lists:
Record eligible courses only:
1. Hall 59:43
2. Ritz 60:00
3. Trafeh 60:39 (see above)
4. Estrada 60:51
All courses:
1. Cotton 59:41
2. Hall 59:43
3. Ritz 60:00
4. Williams 60:11
5. Abdi 60:29
6. Rupp 60:30
7. Trafeh 60:39
=8. Estrada 60:51
=8. Kempainen 60:51

http://arrs.auguszt.in/rankingsIf you are going to nitpick malmo. Can we stop calling it a debut???? Technically yes but he ran a 20k last sept. Which is dam near a half. There is no difference on the running body.
A 20k is not a HM, it's 12.424 miles, they're not even "basically" the same thing

Ritzenhein's 60:00 was not his debut.
New York's course is harder than Houston by far.
"New York's course is harder than Houston by far."
Ummm, are you a Rupp fanboy, per chance?

That's not "nit-picking" that's correct. An aided course is an aided course. A 20k isn't a half-marathon, it is a 20k.

Huh? It's point to point, downhill and the last 6 miles has the wind at their backs.
jjjjj wrote: New York's course is harder than Houston by far.
Look at the results. So many top times at NY. There is a reason for that, a = aided course.

Was your Philly 1982 race your first half-marathon?

NO! I ran a 20k three weeks earlier. ;-)

All of that is true.
About the last 7 miles.
The first 6 are a rolling loop of Central Park.
Which not many people would call an easy course. (i.e. Trials in 2007.)
Cripes, Malmo.
This wasn't Estrada's debut...

Lets see. Central Park was the site of many US 8k championships. Nothing slow about any of those.
Citing the 2008 Olympic Trials doesn't help your case either The pack jogged at 2:17 pace for the first seven miles then blitzed the last 19. Some tough course, eh?
