Wow, that's a tough story.
Back when DyeStat was still DyeStat, Van lit up the boards as mbio. He was pretty easy for kids to troll, and I'm pretty sure he trolled them back.
In 2007, Baylor finished 3rd at NXN-SE in Hoover, just a few points from making it. I know he wanted that at-large bid--and they had beaten us that year and may well have deserved it--but they didn't get it. That was a heck of team.
Van always coached high school cross country meets wearing running shorts, short running shorts. Hard to miss him.

I knew Van when he lived in MA only yesterday met someone who taught prep school with him when he was living here.
Very dedicated runner and sincere person I wish him the best.

Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
