random sampling should give you an unbiased estimate.

An estimate of the average resting heart rate isn't the same things as "everyone's resting heart rate." To report everyone's resting heart rate, you would need to show a separate resting heart rate for each individual.
Not a huge amount of meaning in terms of comparing peoples' to each other's but when comparing yours at different periods of time there can be some meaning. Like if yours is lower than it was a year ago, chances are you're more fit.
Mine is 47 at the lowest.

I run approx 10 miles a week at 6:45 pace on the treadmill. Rode 80-100 miles a week until thanksgiving. Jacobs Ladder at the gym twice a week and lift 3 times a week ( heavy).
