Not feelin' alright.
Not sure why he has to be a "white" music legend, so I'll just ignore that, but this is too bad.
I can't believe he was only 70...seems he has been 'old' for a long time. i would have guessed 80 or older.
I will play "Feelin' Alright" on my keyboard tonight as a tribute.
RIP Joe Cocker.
Saw him at Red Rocks ~ 5 years ago, he was still putting on a great show! RIP.

I'm not sure if you know what the word "ignore" means.
Here is my tribute:

I love Joe's CDs.

You can't bring that up...I've ignored it.

So Flagpole, you're one of the 'politically correct elite'
I think all the OP was pointing out was that Joe Cocker was a rare talented 'white' singer who had soul.
Name some other other 'white' singers who sang with the same soul as Joe Cocker.
If you can, maybe your objection isn't just another example of the same old political correctness.

That would make sense if the OP said "white blues legend" or something similar. He just said "white music legend", which doesn't allude to the fact "that Joe Cocker was a rare talented 'white' singer who has soul" at all.

You're putting up this list as equal soul singers to Joe Cocker?
I think you've proved my point.
Always loved that Mad Dogs and Englishmen ensemble: Leon Russell, Carl Radle, Jim Keltner, et al. Back up vocalist Claudia Lennear was so good -- the inspiration for the Stones' 'Brown Sugar'. And saxman Bobby Keys passed away just 2 weeks ago.
