Why not clockwise?
Why not clockwise?
That's only in the Northern hemisphere. They go clockwise below the equator.

Sort of right. They run counter clockwise everywhere, but only because the standard was created in the Northern Hemisphere. Due to the earth's rotation, it's easier to run counter clockwise (same reason that toilets flush counter clockwise). If we were to start running clockwise, you'd notice subtly but consistently slower times for Northern Hemisphere races.
Magnetism.
People used to run clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.
I think I saw Jazy run a race in that manner, though I don't recall where it was.
Maybe becamuse most people are right handed / right side dominant?
All you lefties out there, do you think running clockwise would be more comfortable?
Seems like it thinking about it but next time I'm on the track I will see if I notice a difference.

Actually they don't. Most likely you already know this.

It's unbelievable that some people actually still think that's why toilets flush that way.
Oddly enough, you didn't search the forums.

The tradition from European castle stairways of turning left on descent giving the defenders going down a free area to swing their right-handed sword and constricting movement of the right arm and sword for those attackers coming up.

Because all the turns are left turns.
Actually, the correct term is widdershins
Tracks should alternate direction on non-meet days. That would help prevent muscular imbalances and chronic injuries.
Because you're running against the clock
