Ok so I'm lookin for a BQ attempt perhaps next fall.... For my age group that requires a sub 3:10. A little about me.. I'm not normally a marathoner but my 5k PR is a 18:11 , i'm consistently a sub 19 runner.. I've ran one half marathon in 1:27, and one marathon which I ran totally ignorant last yr and ended up finishing in 3:20.. I tried to break 3hrs on my first attempt, and boy was that a mistake. Was at the half in 1:30, had a downpour around mile 15, and quite frankly totally blew the last portion of the race.. Following the race I had some IT trouble for about 2months..
Anyways... i'm back and ready! today i went out and did my first LSD run 13 miles at 7:58 pace.. Should your long run be a min or so slower then goal pace? I usually try to avg 50 mpw w/ a recovery wk here and there.. I'm a middle aged male w/ a wife and 2 kids so that is pushing it sometimes..
I probably won't get into full marathon training mode til May or Jun for my Oct marathon..
Judging from what you've heard can i legitimately pull off a sub 3:10 for Boston? any help appreciated. Thanks.
