Oh so I guess Galen Rupp will never win a track medal either, since he's so busy racing indoors.
Rupp has never won either. Unless, you count second place as "winning."

Yes, getting second at the Olympics counts as winning a medal. I'm surprised you didn't know that.
Silver Metal = 2nd place
That means someone not named Rupp finished first and won.
I'm surprised you didn't realize that.
American's now considered getting 2nd and 3rd as winning. Sure things, boys.

It's called a medal, not a metal. And no one said that he won the race. The only claim has been that he won a medal.
Hughes has run 8:11 but now he's better than Jager, who's run much faster on a number of occasions and has been competitive on the world circuit consistently??
Poor Hughes sounds like your classic jock... repeating the same lines of trust in his coach and program, blah, blah, blah. He will retire penniless for not taking advantage of his talents and marketing ability as a premier North American steepler. Too bad he ain't smart.

He's not better yet, but Evan has been running 8:05 for 3 years, Hughes is on a roll! Pretty sure he was still an 8:25 guy in 2012.
@ "It's called a medal, not a metal."
It's made of metal. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

(Coming to America scene with characters--all played by Eddie Murphy in makeup/prosthetic, of course--in the church audience opinion-ating about Randy Watson's vocal performance on stage)
"You must be crazy."

The "at" sign is used to indicate that the text that follows is the name of the individual to whom you are responding, not to precede a quote. I'm surprised you didn't know that.
Nope, you (@) are of course wrong.
And, second place is not winning. I'm surprised you still don't know that.

It's almost like there is a 'stupid' computer somewhere that automatically generates a stupid Letsrun thread on average twice a week.

I agree that there's probably a stupid computer, but I think it averages much higher than twice a week...

No one said second place is winning, they said "winning a medal" which is places 1-3 in a race. and galen finished 2nd aka winning a medal.
I recall that Rupp who had way less finishing speed than Jager as a young runner develop it,. He had to have spent specific training blocks where that was a focus and the only time you can fit that in and compromise your major workouts would be in the winter months indoors.
Jager needs to be a 3:50-1 miler if he has a chance to medal.
you mean metal.
Win means win, not lose. Win means Gold, not silver, bronze, or a finisher's medal.

So anything not on the podium is a spectrum of finisher's medals, eh? So all these American "Olympians" who had no chance at the medal stand but capitalize (i.e. shamelessly exploit) on their "Olympian" status their whole endorsement lives, are "pathetic finishers?" Something tells me you wouldn't have the nads a day in your life to call them out in person, and in fact are more likely to get caught waiting in line to get autographs and gush over in their presence. Hah!
