my mid-distance background
high school 800m, some 1600m. (soccer, not xc)
college - I tried cross country but was never good (did it to stay in shape)
I'm getting back into running after a couple of years of just jogging and jumping in a few 5ks here or there. Some people from my local group are training for a half marathon in April and I'd like to train well and run a good one. If that goes well, I might jump into some 5ks and track races this summer.
I asked what people are doing for half-marathon training and picked up some books/read stuff on the web and I noticed that most half-marathon training seems to have a lot of the components of my base training for mid-distance track(I'd max out at 55-60mpw).
If I do the following what am I missing for half-marathon training?
weekly tempo run (4-5 miles at threshold)
some sort of intervals (12x400, 800s, or 4-5x mile)
long run (I used to do 10-14 miles) - usually done as a progression run.
weights/ply0 - 2x per week
hills - once a week, sometimes mixd with workouts above
