I started work at a company and I'm just surprised how many high level executives and mid level managers and even the entry level new hires drink and/or take drugs and generally live an unhealthy lifestyle.
One of the managers told me he drinks a tequila every night to help him sleep. I see him drinking probably 5+ cups of coffee throughout the work day so I wonder if that's the reason? He has a pot belly and walks very briskly throughout the hallways and seems tense and hyper all the time.
One of the high performing new hires takes edible weed to help him sleep. He also drinks enormous amounts of coffee during the work day and speaks so fast that it is hard for me to understand him.
At social events and business trainings and luncheons, employees get hammered quite often.
Sometimes one of the big shots at the company brings in beers for us to have at 4pm for an unplanned "department social," and since I haven't done my PM run yet, I don't want any. It's a tricky situation.
Overall though I must say that it is a bit tough because to me a lot of these people just don't seem to live a healthful lifestyle. Having a beer here and there to be social is cool, but it sucks when downing beers and getting pretty hammered at social events during the work week is just seen as regular business, and I feel as though if I don't participate it might hurt me politically.
