The boys had a rough day
Still pulled out the W. not as strong as last year.
Well Matthew Maton didn't happen that's for sure. Props to John Dressel for showing up
3/5/6/7/10/11 is not a good showing, with the Midwest 1/2/8/12/14/16, it took a little while but the West runners (Boys) steadily moved up.
So the South and Northeast were very weak (scores where 31W, 37MW, 83S, 89NE
Now, arguably, the NE focused on the NxN, but look at those doubled like Hacker and Reiser, both of whom beat the NE favorite Ostberg.

Look at how many races (esp. Californians) have to run - and they run big race after big race right up the to FL regional. It's insane. lol
I think the west team ran well overall except Maton will be disappointed. Maybe they were just a bit overhyped.
Asleep, that's where. The race was at 9 am PT and West Coast people HATE waking up early. For Eastern people it was at noon, and they don't mind getting up early. Circadian rhythms or some shit.
Why you don't like racing?
Time to put more emphasis on racing than times.
The better question is what happened to the Northeast? Girls started out in the back and hardly moved up. DeBalsi probably ran the fastest 2nd mile of anyone in the race to get back into the top 5, but let the race get way away so it was for naught. At least it was for a girl who placed 2nd (almost winning) last year.
The boys were a little better, and Ostberg went for it, but still a bad day. Top place 9th and the NE occupied the bottom two spots.
Shoutout to the South winning the girls race. When was the last time that happened?

NE=Over-hyped. Ostberg lost training late in the year which hurt him.
Agree the South was a surprise
One of the stat jockeys should do an analysis of the length, start, end and number of competitive races for each major running State to see 1. how taxed or fresh runners are by State for Regionals and 2. how taxed or fresh runners are for Nationals. I think a number of the best overall runners never make it to Nationals because they are done by the their State Championship and their State Championship happens late in the season. Of those that make it to Nationals, I believe there is exhaustion as well that leads to some runners, teams and regions looking artificially stronger year after year. This is why there are so many "surprises" and "disappointments" in college running.

Never. This is the first time ever.

What's with the early start? What other HS race starts at 9 AM? As I recall, NXN is a mid-day deal, or at least late morning (edit: 11:30 for boys) which seems more fair.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
