American's support gun rights over gun control in latest Pew Poll:
Awesome. Glad people are realizing that people kill people, not guns directly. And do we really trust a dysfunctional government with stripping second amendment rights from citizens and having the only guns/weapons in the land?

I hope we trust them because if they did decide to turn the military against us then I doubt you peashooter would be very helpful.
Go to your local Gander Mountain, Dick's Sporting Goods, and look in the firearms section. Yes, there are pea shooters. But, there are also guns such as AK's and AR's that push back thugs like Michael Brown as well as greedy rich bureaucrats like Harry Reid as well.
Wording of a survey can change things a lot.
You know you can support the right to have a gun and at the same time support control of guns getting into the wrong hands.
Do most people support the right of a convicted arm robber getting guns as easily as possible?
“Do you think that gun ownership in this country does more to... ”
Protect people from becoming victims of crime Put people’s safety at risk
It amazes me that people think gun ownership is more likely to protect people from becoming victims of crime than put people’s safety at risk.
How many people have actually used their gun to protect themselves or a loved one from being a victim vs. how many people have used a gun to either intentionally or unintentionally harm someone else or themselves?
Pew pew, pew pew.
If Michael Brown had had a gun he wouldn't be dead. No, hang on...

Well, there are more people in the US now, and more people own guns now, yet gun violence has decreased.
The press makes you think things are otherwise. That's what makes this poll so interesting. The press and most of the liberal politicians and groups would have you believe that having a gun is evil (despite the fact that many of them own guns). That gun violence is rampant. That every gun owned is going to kill people.
There has been a huge effort to turn people away from guns. Yet despite that, gun ownership has gone up, gun violence has gone down, and peoples opinions about gun rights has shifted to support.
That's pretty amazing.

Fortunately, there is not. I live in a slightly (I mean slightly) more civilized state than wherever you are. Do they also have fighter jets and tanks in your local Gander Mountain or Dick's Sporting Goods? We were talking about the USA military not Michael Brown. He is dead so you don't have to be scared of him anymore.

So, you think violent offenders with a felony conviction who've done their time should be allowed to have a gun?
In 2014, how is a poll taken? Landlines? The better headline would be "56% of those 85 years old and older AND who heard the phone ring during the Matlock cliffhanger ending believe in nun rights over nun control.

Read the link. I think it says 60% were cell phones, ages ranged from 18 to ?, all 50 states.

Whew! 60%. I thought it could be a poor representation.
18 to ? clears it up as well.
On a secondary note, how many times have you received a poll question on your cell phone?
With your wisdom added I now think the headline should be Pew Poll shows gun rights over ?
Polls in 2014 are poor no matter how you slice it and far from an accurate representation of,.... well,.....anything.
The gun debate is no longer about the right to bear arms. It is about issues like background checks and assault weapons.
Look Bloomberg is the foremost proponent of gun control but he has said he favours gun ownership but wants certain controls like background checks. Seems common sense to me. Not sure why NRA and the far right opposes it

We know that most gun violence is one criminal shooting another criminal.
Think drug deals.
Gun violence going down does not mean that you are safer with a gun than without a gun.
I would never say that every gun owned is going to kill people. That's stupid.
My question:
Is a person having a gun more likely to use it for actual protection or to cause harm?
I understand the comfort that people feel when they have gun that they "could" use to protect themselves.
That's real value.
And I understand that guns are used or hunting or for sport.
And that's cool.
So let's keep the right to own a gun intact.
Now I just hope people can understand there are public safety issues at hand where consideration and implementation of some restrictions of gun possession would be beneficial to the greater good of society.

I like this angle.
Supporters of the NRA would certainly have wanted Michael Brown to have a gun.

Well, you are either stupid or you are lazy. I don't know which is worse.
READ THE ARTICLE!!! I don't have to requote the stats, they are in the article and your questions get answered there.
I'm sure it's much easier to just have your opinions and imagine how a poll that indicates things you don't like is wrong. Again, lazy or stupid?
Pew is a very well respected, nonpartisan polling organization, and the article is from NPR, which is at best neutral, if not left leaning.
The RATE of gun ownership in this country has DRASTICALLY gone down the last 4 decades. And yes, gun violence has decreased. Did you have a point??
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/10/us/rate-of-gun-ownership-is-down-survey-shows.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0Well, as far as gun ownership being up, as you suggest, yes, they "report otherwise" because it's not true. Crazy evil media.
And they report accurately on levels of violence in america, and the murder rate, declining. So.....another lie by you (that's 2 for those scoring at home)
. No, not evil, just more likely to result in violence or a deadly accident to someone in that home. And that the easy access/gun show loopholes allow criminals and nuts to stockpile guns. OH for 3.
Define "rampant" ? They simply report that overall violence, and gun violence specifically is MUCH higher in the USA than every other western country, and that reliable studies directly relate this higher violence to higher gun availability and ownership.
No one ever said that. Stop the nonsense.
The NRA and republicans have directed a "HUGE EFFORT to turn people" ON "to guns." And despite that, gun ownership IS DOWN ( and violence too, just not nearly enough). I guess that is a little bit "amazing." But yes, it is also "amazing" to realize that after all the gun tragedies in this country, and the reliable studies demonstrating the owning a gun is much more likely to result in harm to a family member than helping one scare off an intruder, that more people believe in guns. Yes, sad, and amazing, but there are a lot of stupid people out there, and a lot of people pushing misinformation (like you), so not that surprising.
