Paul Gompers 2:15:28.
Has anyone even taken a good whack at this mark in the past 10 years?
There are a number of other marks that are over 30 years old but they could go down on a good day by a lot of college freshmen.

Paul is currently a Harvard professor:

Came in 4th in the 1988 Olympic Trials
(For me, at least) an awesome photo of him in the race extending his hand for a handshake. Could not find it on the interweb.
Heard he has become quite a good triathlete. Cathy Schiro's women's record is coming up on 31 years as well. Any idea what she has been doing?

She is a musician, at least part of the time:
http://www.bliss4.net/press/I'll never forget Gompers in the 1988 Olympic marathon trials late in the race battling in the top 4. I don't think he ever ran much faster than 29:00 for 10,000 in college at Harvard. He was contending for that last spot unitl the final 2 miles.
One of the greatest race photos of all-time is from late in the race at the Rocket City marathon where he ran the 2:15 American Junior record and wanted to introduce himself and shake hands with the leader Bryan Pownell who eventually won in 2:14.
What's the Japanese jr record?
