If I end up doing this how will if affect my training? I want to do it at the beginning of the summer, so once it ends I can immediately start my cross country base training...

I could use the 18000 but that would be beyond miserable. I don't know how you wouldn't go insane. And it would be awful for your running. It would probably take several months to be running decently. You would suffer bad atrophy.
2013 article. Has anyone done this and told how it was? Do you get to shower? 70 days without showering? Do they measure cardio function when your spouse gets into that bed with you?
That is super dangerous, you could mess yourself up for life. Your bones, joints will atrophy, some of it may be irreversible. If you do it, don't do any kind of aggressive physical activity until at least 70 days of normalcy afterward,
Agreed. They're just taking advantage of unemployed people that need the money. It should be at least 20 times that amount or more.
2014 article last month==>>

I may actually apply for this. If I could do this during the summer. 18k would be great
I make 250k a year, why the hell would I do this?!?
250k is so LRC 2013. 300k is the claim to make for 2014. For 2015 you better be at 350k+.
I bet my ankle tendonitis would still be there after this.
You're right. Inflations a whore.
350k? are you kidding? better be 500k
Honestly, I won't be happy till I'm at a million a week. #hungrylikethewolf
I want some to do this and then run a marathon because I think that's the equivalent of walking 100m on Mars due to the gravity difference...
Makes sense. Gravity's a who're.
That's crazy. I'd pay 18K to stay on my bed for 70 days. Just as long as they pay for my food.
Aussie Olympian and medalist Al Lawrence did this back in the early '60s and seems to have enjoyed the experience. He wrote about it in his autobiography, "Olympus and Beyond." Fun read.

The detrimental effects of studies like this are exactly why we shouldn't be "going to the moon" and "Mars". I'm sorry, but man isn't meant to be in/live in space- it's like taking a fish out of the water. HUGE waste of money, even if the federal funding for aerospace is a tiny part of the budget.
Your muscles may never be the same again.
There's more than just a little atrophy associated with not moving from a bed for 70 days. I would bet a lot of money that any runner who does this never runs within 10 seconds / mile of their PRs again.
You can do isometrics in bed. Are they strapping you down so that you can't move at all?
