Utah with 3 in the top ten!
Here's LAST year's results for comparison.
As you can see, the race went a bit faster this year than last. Armstrong missed the course record by 3 seconds. Great performance by that kid. I still think that Mantz would have done quite a bit better if he hadn't had all that time off doing nothing but pool "running." We'll see what another week brings, but there's not time to do any more "catch up." Gotta taper for yet another race. I think the West should run their qualifier a week earlier.

That's just the guys... where are the girls?
Found em! Thanks tho
really glad to see Mantz be able to qualify after barely any running. Hope he does really well.
Me too. He seems like a really good kid, and I've been impressed with how he handled his injury. Fastest time he's ever run on that course, too.
Why isn't anyone talking about Trevor Reinhart from Marin Academy, CA? 2nd today and 12th last year... Top 5 dark horse?
Because he didn't get 12th last year at Footlocker West, maybe? He got 12th at nationals. No one talks about him because he barely did anything this season of note until CIF and today, and he doesn't run track. He's good enough to do some serious damage next Saturday.

His CIF performance speaks for itself- 14:59 2nd fastest time of the meet w/ really nobody up front pushing him. Plus, he's got crazy toughness (the sectional meet had Portland Meadows style mud and standing pools of water and he won with ease). There is more to Reinhart than meets the eye. Don't underestimate him.

He played baseball in 9th and 10th grade; apparently he was also great in that sport. He wanted to run track his junior year and did get in a race or two (I think) but missed most of the season due to IT band problems.
He was actually a LAX player, ran 2 1600's last season and on basically no training, won league in 4:20. I think he ran Dublin Distance Fiesta 3200, but I'm unsure. After CIF, in his interview, he said he doesn't train much over the summer. Wonder how his college transition will be.
His college transition will either be very good, or very bad. He has the talent to be a top guy, but it's a question of if he can handle the training or wants to. I'm interested to see how well he does Saturday. Even top-10 will be hard for even the top guys.
i wouldn't read much into comparisons between last year and this year--last year it was raining pretty hard during the sweeps races, making for some slippery downhills/turns and slower times. today's course was a little soft from the week's rain, but mostly smooth.
i also wouldn't read much into the places of the top guys--i got the sense (though i can't be sure) watching them that they were running to qualify, at least over the last half mile--esp. the california kids who've raced hard for several consecutive weeks. i wouldn't be surprised by a complete shuffling of the order next week...
does anyone know where allie ostrander is and why she is not running?
She was in Portland. Ran NXN. Heard she did pretty well.
Lol. Where was Tanner Anderson? Did he run some other race yesterday and WIN?
