Great Oak didn't make it to NXN after D1 Victory. I find it extremely dumb. They are clearly better then Brea Olinda, Jurupa Hills.

How would you change the nxn system
They ran slower team times than the other teams, why should they go?
Change it so the top three teams from each region move on. It makes it purely raced based and grants no bias towards regions like California or New York. It would allow great teams like Great Oaks, Lake Braddock, or Brentwood to continue their season without nike picking their favorite teams. They could have one at large selection just to even it out to 22 teams.
Brentwood was fourth. No go.
Keep in mind that FL and NXN are post-season exhibition meets and cannot be true, high school championship meets. California, necessarily, has a championship season that goes on longer than any other state and NXN and FL have to create compromised qualifying procedures to include their athletes. FL West is run a week later than they 3 other FL regionals and NXN has to use the CIF state meet to name qualifiers.
NXN and FL are doing their best and CIF has no incentive to change. For the foreseeable future this imperfect system will not change.

Great Oak was #4 in the CA merge. If Great Oak wanted to go on, they needed to run better. That simple. No #4 team made it, and the days of #4 teams making it are severely numbered.

^^ This. Move up the FL and NXN dates and CA changes in one year--for the better of 49 other states. It's time to put an end to CA dictating the schedule.
Remember when Mountain View was the fastest team in the state but didn't make it in after Rich's mysterious power merge equation giving the nod to Arcadia? (Caugh, Caugh). The fact is is these teams are racing in different divisions & you're never going to have the best teams represented when you pick from the California state meet.
Madera South should go too.
Doug, please stop starting these threads how unfair things are. First your girl tripped the leader at state last year and you cried it was the leaders fault for not running faster and now this. Sad. Very sad.
Did Gig Harbor qualify? I just looked at the team qualifiers and swear they weren't on there.
Great Oak - D1
1. 15:25
2. 15:36
3. 15:37
4. 15:57
5. 16:13
Jurupa Hills - D2
1. 15:08
2. 15:20
3. 15:36
4. 15:56
5. 16:10
Brea-Olinda - D3
1. 15:09
2. 15:29
3. 15:36
4. 15:46
5. 16:13
6. 16:14
BO beats GO at positions 1-4, then a tie at the 5th. JH beats GO at 1-5. Without Tamagno, who isn't running NXN, GO beats BO, but clearly JH is better than GO.
4. 109 Burroughs/burbank ( 15:47 1:18:52 0:11)
=======================================
1 14 Elias Hoxsie SR 1499 15:40
2 18 Garrett Boulais SR 1497 15:43
3 22 Shane Thompson SR 1500 15:47
4 27 Andrew Barrondo JR 1496 15:51
5 28 Alexander Hirsch FR 1498 15:51
6 ( 61) Justin Villagran JR 1501 16:24
7 ( 76) Timothy Wells SO 1502 16:35
All the teams that beat Burroughs should be glad the did not have a #1 that could run around 15:10. If they did they would be going to NXN.
An 11 second gap from their #1 to #5. Wow.
I can not recall such a small gap from #1 to #5.
And just for fun they were fourth in D-1, based on 6th runner. Madera South's #6 ran 16:23!
Wasn't started by me. Donger, you stay classy. ;)

Lol. 0/10.
News flash: lot of teams won their State meet but did not run well enough at their NXN qualifier to make it to nationals. Want to go to Nationals? Run well at the qualifier. It's pretty simple.

Their state meet IS the qualifier, dummy.

They are clearly better? How do you figure that? Arguably they had a disadvantage going later in the day when temps were slightly higher, but even then Arcadia's Rocha managed to register the fastest time of the day in their race. And news flash - D1 isn't necessarily the fastest division.
Ventura, Brea, and Jurupa earned their spots, and nothing should be taken away from their efforts.
