how in the world does this place become the most powerful nation in the world? Does no one else want to succeed?
Or maybe the 160 million are correct about these being end times, and God has rewarded us with prosperity.

FACT: We are indeed in End Times
Why do you have such a hard time accepting this?
The Singularity is Near
"Most Evangelicals Believe Natural Disasters Are the Apocalypse, Not Climate Change"
Well, they also believe that a magic man in the sky created the universe but messed up so he sent his son down(plot twist:it was actually himself) to die and that made all of the screw ups ok. Now they are both magic men in the sky watching over us.
So, why do we care what they believe? They're nuts!
Agip, did they actually survey 160 million people?
no they don't
A successful capitalistic society requires (among other things) a balance between a few amoral smart people and a lot of idiots.

No, they actually surveyed 300 million people and 160 million of them thought this.
There aren't 160 million evangelicals in the US you god damn dicktard.

agip how does that study shake out in terms of the thoughts of those that have taken the term Christian to be their cult name. The ones I think of as reclusive homeschoolers that would not let a Mormon missionary into their house for fear once inside the Mormon would be revealed as Satan and he would commence to eat the Christian young, the Christian dog, the Christian cat, paint the Christian garage brown and rearrange the nice neat Christian cupboard shelves non-alphabetically?
Thanks
We're all living in the End Times for ourselves. Once you're born, the End Times have begun.

This is so moronic, from a Christian perspective, it would make me angry if I weren't already a thousand times familiar with it. The fact is, embracing the real science behind climate change, the trajectory of human evolution, etc. would actually lead to great clarity about a sort of "End times" on par with the Flood, in the next 60-100 years.
This belief in the "Apocalypse" and all their other phony hackneyed beliefs are just affiliatory nonsense, rather than anything sincere and morally intelligent. We're a nation of 85%+ Christians. The Church is supposed to be the "body of Christ," "thy will be done." Now, just consider "The Commons Problem" (of world politics and the environment) in the context of our nation and in a moral context. Corruption, selfishness and all sorts of greed are rampant in our country. Guess what the Christians are doing? Participating in it, not even batting an eye, willfully ignorant about it. "Thy will be done" uttered in a monotonous, unblinking dutiful tone. Take credit where none is to be had and ignore creativity and many great ideas. Live a Christian lifestyle for the resume, for the social status and for rising up the ranks. Cover your butt with "Jesus jargon" while worshipping the disgusting vanity and characters in vogue today. "Tempt the Lord thy God" openly, and do nothing about your friends doing the same, because Christians will put social status and social media before morals every time. The broad road to destruction and they're on it.
If you take the example of Catholics, they'd rather rally for a pre-determined "affiliation" issue like abortion, etc. then use their brains and deduce the priorities of good work and responsibility that are to be found in the tangled matrix of our society's self-serving group psychology/groupthink and institutions. Every denomination is the same in this regard to shortcomings.
"End Times" are not just about environmental disaster, but when the machinery of our society runs amok. When nobody wants to take responsibility individually and collectively we fail to do many important works. Christians today are like the Pharisees, the Hypocrites and the Vipers spoken of in the Gospel. Self-serving Church jockeys who memorize the scripture, twist it, but don't understand it, don't apply it to society, don't use their own brains and critical thinking.
To any fair intelligent minds out there, I say,
hear my words. Be good for goodness sake and cultivate thorough, responsible thinking. Don't hate the Gospels just because Churchgoers and theologians alike of this day are steeped in ignorance and take Christianity as a foregone conclusion instead of struggling and working for insights and truth and good.
And take the superficial conservatism and bible-pounding of Church hypocrites with a grain of salt. They will never understand the Gospels because they have never felt the rapture of martyrdom. They have no idea what it's like to have no place to rest your head, to be ostracized for speaking and doing righteousness against the current. They look upon the Great, wise, ethical martyr hanging in relative eternity and never understand a fraction of it a day in their lives. They go about their societal life no different from a greedy, petty secular middle class yesman. A corrupt tree bring bringeth forth evil fruit. If Prophets, Saints and self-made "mortals" anywhere near Jesus' calibur were among us today, they would be scorned, outcast, denied, persecuted, betrayed much as had happened countless times in the OT. Real truth, goodness and fidelity is not without great difficulty and ignominy in this time. Therefore, know that the many Christians of this day are phonies and therein is the sentiment of the real "End Times."

what is meant by 'the rapture of martyrdom' in terms of regular people?

Wait, did agip just say that? That makes my head spin so fast I have to think I've just gone down the rabbit hole.
I don't believe that 160 million people strongly believe in the same ANYTHING in America.
You could not even get 160 Million people in America to agree on whether SEX is good, or the best kind of toothpaste.
Do you really believe this?
*this* is why the rest of the modern world thinks the US is out to lunch
It's pretty anthropocentric to think that the "times" revolve around our survival.

this post I'll agree with
the 'survey' is hogwash but there is a kernel of truth - the paradox between the US being founded as both a religious sanctuary and a child of the Enlightenment lives with us today.
The science done here is without peer, and the religiousity is still with us.
just fun to think about America in these terms.

funny you pointed that out - in that post I had originally typed something like 'but that hits a little close to home' but then deleted it because I wanted the focus to be on our boy brian there, not me.
but yeah - I hear you and agree.
