Here's the deal: I'm 30 years old with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. focused on embedded programming. I'm working in Western Pennsylvania (born and raised here) at a medical company as a new product design engineer. I'm content with the position, but I am still seeking more; The design cycles are slow, and people are generally lazier here. I do very well here, and my boss let's me know but I'm looking to go somewhere where I can learn more and become a better engineer; I don't think this is the place to do it. .
I really want to stay in the design area, but besides medical places - Western PA doesn't have much to offer in this aspect. I am considering a move into the consumer electronics field and looking into job prospects in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, and Austin. I feel these places are the richest in the tech area and would offer me the most with relation to the quality of the job. This is a tough decision since my family is from this area and I've basically lived here my entire life - besides my undergrad at Ohio State. I've been to both the Bay Area and San Diego and love them both, but haven't been to Austin.
Do you guys think this would be a smart career move?
I figured I'd probe around and see what you guys think, it seems most of you give rationale advice with this type of stuff. Thanks.
