I'm training to race a half marathon in mid January here in Phoenix. My PR is 1:25 and I'm hoping to break 1:20 this year. At this point I have been building a base for about 7 weeks and I'm up to 58 miles per week. My plan is to shift into a second phase of training starting December 1st and carry that out for the last 7 weeks or so leading up to the race. I'm wondering if some of you who've had success going under 1:20 might share some of your workouts that helped to get you there and/or share some general advice on where I should direct my focus for the last 7 weeks. As an indicator of my fitness level right now I just ran 13.1 today in 1:29 at a comfortably challenging pace. I think its also important to note that I've never really put in a good training season for a half marathon, I always just sort of relied on residual fitness from track and XC in high school and some light running here and there for fitness ever since.
