Cheserek and Jenkins obviously ran well at NCAA XC, and the Ducks crank out new 800/1500 stars in track every year like no other school, but in the post-Rupp years the Duck rank and file runners underachieve every freaking year in XC.
The issue is not quality of runner because the Ducks recruit and get the best HS blue chip runners every year. Track season training is not an issue because the Duck rank and file outrun Colorado in track every year (I could have started a thread why does Colorado suck in track every year when they are so great at XC?).
The Duck coaches need to adjust their XC training for runners who are not Cheserek and Jenkins. Runners not named Cheserek or Jenkins must be training too hard to keep up with the stars in workouts. Stop it Oregon! Start developing your ordinary HS blue-chip runners!
This gets me to the subject of my post. If Wetmore had coached this group of Ducks could he have beaten his Colorado team that won NCAAs this year? I think the answer is yes.
