A doctor diagnosed me with a "frayed" Achilles and said that in order to allow it to heal properly, I would need to forgo the use of the minimalist shoes I have been using for years and start using some more built up or supportive shoes that would take stress off the Achilles and prevent it from stretching too much. I've gotten used to the light, low-drop shoes and don't like the idea of returning to the thicker and heavier trainers, but I'm willing to do it if that's the only way to get back to running, and it probably is, given that it's been over 2 years since I could really train.
In any event, he recommended something that will raise the heel up, to allow the frayed Achilles to tighten up and heal, and something that will keep the Achilles fitting snugly into the back of the shoe without moving around a lot.
I know little to nothing about the good trainers (I've done the minimalist thing for years), but he suggested in particular a trainer either from Mizuno or New Balance.
Can anyone recommend a good training shoe from either of those 2 companies which would fit those 2 recommendations? Thanks in advance.
